Pearls are an organic and delicate gem, it is very important that you properly take care of them to ensure they stay lustrous and beautiful for many generations.
Tips to take care the pearls:‧ Put your pearl jewelry in a soft bag, a velvet box or a satin pouch. Pearls should not touch other jewelry or hard objects. If you plan to wear pearls on your clothing, wear clothing with soft materials. Avoid wearing pearls on rough materials such as wool.
‧ Since pearls contain calcium carbonate, they can be damaged by acids. Protect pearls from chemicals such as vinegar, alcohol, ammonia, and hair spray, bleach, perfume, swimming pool water, and cosmetics. You should put on your pearls after you have applied makeup, hair spray and perfume. Wear pearls on your clothing, not directly onto your skin.
‧ Avoid wearing pearls when you sweat since sweat contains acid. Remember to take pearls off when exercising, swimming or taking a shower.
‧ Pearls can absorb perfume and hair spray, so avoid wearing pearls when you go to hair salon. Also avoid wearing pearls when you cook, since pearls can absorb smoke and steam from cooking.
‧ Pearls also contain small amount of water and protein, so keep them from high heat and dry places. Avoid harsh sun exposure.
‧ Pearls contain organic substance. They need fresh air and moist. Wear pearls at least once every month.
‧ Wipe pearls regularly with a soft cloth moistened with water. Pearls can absorb perfume and skin oils as well as dirt.
‧ If you scratch a pearl skin, use olive oil to gently rub on the scratched area.
When to Have Pearls Restrung
If you wear your pearls often, they should be strung about once a year to prevent strand breakage. We suggest the use of silk thread. However, nylon thread is an acceptable alternative. The thread should be knotted between each pearl to prevent all the pearls in a strand from falling off should a break occur. Knotting also prevents possible damage from the pearls rubbing against each other.
